\nExample – ZR22 is a scroll compressor with a 22,000 btu\/hr rating and is equivalent to a 2 ton rating.\u00a0 Heat pump and air conditioner tonnages are determined by the amount of btu\/hr.\u00a0 Every 12,000 btu\/hr is equal to a “ton” of cooling or heating capacity.\u00a0 So 18,000 is equal to 1.5 x 12,000 and equates to a 1.5 Ton unit. \u00a0 It is perfectly acceptable to be within 3,000 btu\/hr when replacing a compressor.
